About Rob
I’ll start with a disclaimer. I don’t know what I’m doing and telling you more about me would probably make this introduction worse. In fact, my biggest challenge in life is describing myself. If you read my resume out loud it sounds like a group of drunk strangers chatting in a bar. My life experience is all over the place, my work history has no internal logic, and people are generally baffled by me. But on the bright side, confusion is great for conversation and irrational life decisions beget resourcefulness. Please keep all of this in mind if you choose to continue.
If you’re still reading, thank you. As I mentioned above, describing myself is complicated. I’m a Charlotte, North Carolina native who lived abroad for 14 years. Between 2001 and 2015, I lived in three different countries: New Zealand, China and Japan. I met my wife in Tokyo. She is from São Paulo, Brazil. In 2015 we moved back to Charlotte. In 2016 our first daughter was born and 2019 our second daughter was born. Over the years I’ve been a teacher, a writer, a researcher, an actor, a real estate agent and at times anything (legal) that paid the bills (especially in China).
Nowadays, I write under the pen names R.D. Smith, Lick Darsey and Rob Douglas. At least, those are the pen names I’m focused on right now. There have been others, many others, and I’m sure there will be more in the future. Thank you so much for taking the time to read a little about me and I hope you enjoy my books. Please feel free to contact me at rob@brightauroramedia.com or through the contact page. Happy reading!
